I'm sure many moms have wondered what the quickest way to get rid of a yeast infection on their small child. My poor little girl (10mos old) had her second yeast infection. The first time we applied Nystatin to it 4 times a day per the doctors orders but it kept getting worse. After a few days we started applying it at every diaper change and it finally began to clear up but took 3-4 days to go away. If every yeast infection is like my daughter's it's painful for them, so it made me sad to think that wiping her bottom just made things worse and more uncomfortable for her.
Anyway, my baby girl is on antibiotics for a double ear infection so of course she developed another yeast infection. We actually started applying Nystatin before she broke out to try to help ward it away, but she was determined to get one anyway. Another mom told me that if I gave her a bath in baking soda, it would clear it up. Last night I tried it. I didn't see any immediate changes, but this morning when I got her out of bed and changed her diaper, the yeast infection was COMPLETELY gone!!
It makes me wonder why a doctor doesn't tell you about the easiest and quickest solution to the problem. It's also the cheapest and you can find baking soda at any grocery retailer. I do understand that if you put too much in the water you can actually burn them, so wouldn't it be good if they told you about this home remedy but gave you instructions on how much to use? I have to admit, I guessed, but I didn't put a lot in her bath water. The reason baking soda works so well, is it changes the PH balance.
Anyway, I just thought I'd pass along this bit of information. I'm sure there are other moms out there that would be more inclined to use a home remedy that works so quickly rather than pay for a prescription that takes days to work.
