After watching enough "Biggest Loser", I know it's possible to make HUGE changes in my life; I just have to want it bad enough. I've had to go through a LOT to get where I am now, but I wouldn't change it because it has made me who I am. I don't believe in having regrets, only lessons learned. We only learn by making mistakes and those of us who have struggle after struggle know that those lessons can come at a price.
This next part is just a little background so you don't think I can't possibly understand what you may be going through or have been through.
I believe that healthy living is the best way to live. It's a lesson I had to learn but I can't pin point an exact time when I learned it. Growing up I had a "mother" (I use the term loosely.. I was adopted but I'm not sure if she really ever loved me) who insulted and criticized my weight (she was also physically abusive)... when I wasn't really very big. I was barely overweight but no one could really tell because of the way my body is shaped. I was athletic. I loved playing sports and I picked up other sports easily. She made me feel so bad about myself in more ways than just about my weight. As a child and then a teen, I had no confidence in me, no motivation to be better (because I was made to feel that I would never stack up) and no desire to learn.
I started to randomly gain a lot of weight (one time I gained 25lbs in 3 months) and when I saw an obgyn for the first time, I was told I had a hormone imbalance but nothing was done to find out the cause. I was just told I was lazy and that I ate too much (stereotypical of what most people think about people who are overweight). As time went on I gained more weight, though I really didn't eat much (which is just as bad as eating too much since it slows your metabolism down) and I slowly stopped being able to be as active as I once was.
Now to my main point.
I know it's hard to get up in the morning to work out and there are many excuses (I used to think I had to go to a gym, or that I didn't have time in my busy schedule), but it is possible.
Since it's summer, I get up about 6:30am 6 days a week to do my 30 min workout in my living room (when everyone else is sleeping) then I take my shower and go about my daily routine. When my son goes back to school (Aug 9th here) I will be getting up again at 5:30am 6 days a week to do my 30 min workout. The time goes by quickly if you have the right exercise video for you and you enjoy it.
If I can take 4 college course, work 30-35 hours a week, take care of two young children (one is 8 and the other is 2), and keep up with the house work (as best as I can, I'm not perfect), then you can too. You just have to find the right schedule for you and don't beat yourself up if you have to skip a day or don't exercise as often as I am.
You have to do what's best for you but you will feel a WHOLE lot better for it. If you have a hard time losing weight despite trying, and I mean really trying, make an appointment with your doctor and get a consult with an endocrinologist. You may have something more going on (like I did since high school).
If you're one of those who LOVES food, you can eat healthy and still eat very delicious foods. Healthy food is not by any means boring. I have found a LOT of healthy, new and delicious recipes online but my favorite recipes come from a book "Smart Carb Suppers" which you can purchase from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Ebay and other sites. I purchased my several years ago from Kohl's.
I haven't invested in any other recipe books but I know there are several out there. You can possibly even modify your current dishes. If you love pastas (like I do), use whole grain pasta. Just do some research on how to make current dishes healthier or find similar dishes.
